Hi I’m Daniela Urem

I am interested in collaborations between individuals and networks from different sectors, involved in curriculum and policy development, research and knowledge exchange. To me, the importance of arts and culture for innovation is equal to the importance of innovation for education. Radically improving the efficiency and quality of teaching, research and learning theory and practice are the key to a thriving and inventive society. As arts and culture are intrinsically linked to creativity, they are closely intervened to innovation. In designing study programs, I am particularly attentive to the adoption of educational ideas from external sources, targeting innovation as the core.

The Creative Cultural Alliance (CCA) programs have educational methodology intendant to support the co-working of the faculty of different disciplines. This is to ensure disciplinary consistency in arts, culture, science, and technology. With the Unicult2020 fifth edition coming up in 2019 as the first European Interfacing academy for the European winning Master module in Arts, Science and Technology MAST, we are working on the development of additional programs in Contemporary theatre, dance, architecture and design. Our programs provide a provocative new direction for the study of art and cultural policies concerning higher education, the creative economy and in shaping innovative cultural work while nurturing creative and cultural human capital.

In my research, in the dynamics of innovation, I am interested in formation of innovative systems, a triple helix of university-industry-government, in relation to challenging our understanding of the educational innovations, creative universities and policy to reinforce the intercultural education as one of the important parts of the future of education. I believe that instead of a top-down approach, the educational and cultural policy leaders need to be asking “what are future citizens in need of and how can innovation and creative innovative education help us reinforce it”.

The educational systems have to overcome the frequent lack of communication between subjects and disciplines to achieve the overall system comprehension. The future is the intercultural education focused on cultural diversity, rather than an education for those who are culturally diverse so the universities have to design and apply the intercultural education and develop intercultural skills as intercultural curriculum. It is the educational approach from which we can address issues relating to the treatment of cultural diversity in education, beyond the established limits by races, ethnic groups or nationalities, considering diversity as a valuable force and a mutual enrichment. The innovation could make this possible. Deep, multifaceted, and comprehensive innovations featured and developed at the Music Tech Fest, both tangible and intangible, have the capacity to quickly generate scalable effects.
